Weather. That day we experienced it all. Sunshine, Weather. That day we experienced it all. Sunshine, thunder, lightning, wind, hail, plummeting temperatures. We were in turns warm, cold, wet, dry. Scandinavian’s believe there’s no such thing as bad weather just poor clothing choices. We like that attitude. Our favourite walking and hiking spots are chock f Our favourite walking and hiking spots are chock full of tripping hazards and barely paths at all. Best if there is a change in elevation. Ideally we’re able to breathe deeply taking in the diverse earthy scents of surrounding forest. A rock on which to rest and meditate on the fast moving river is pretty much icing on the cake, particularly in the company of friends. This spot in Ontario reminded us of Rabun County in North Georgia. Location, location, location. We fell asleep liste Location, location, location. We fell asleep listening to the sound of waves crashing ashore and awoke to a calm and silent lake. It was just the three of us alone in the world with the Monarch butterflies, red squirrels, Blue Jays and shore birds. Coffeeeeee... wherever we are that is how we start Coffeeeeee... wherever we are that is how we start our day. In the van we carry two grinders, one is a hand grinder. We carry an Espro French Press and Hario pour over drippers and filters. We live to try locally roasted coffee wherever we may be. We are awfully glad to have met this duo from Essex at the Amherstburg Farmer’s Market last month. Yesterday we were introduced to an organic roast which we are enjoying this beautiful Sunday morning! This fruity roast is a good match for our breakfast of Dutch Baby Pancake and local peaches. Did you know that 100 years ago 1/3 of all occupat Did you know that 100 years ago 1/3 of all occupations in Canada were in agriculture? 12 years ago Stats Canada posted that just 1.8% of jobs in Canada were in agriculture. And the majority of those are industrial farms! All the more reason, in our books, to celebrate and support folks like Jess and Jakoby from @morning.moon.farms! Today’s haul included a couple of bags of greens that they call Hippie Mix. We’re more than happy to identify as hippies because this mix contains a few of our favourites like mustard greens and arugula. You bet that’s what we had for our post market lunch! Tonight we’ve got our faces fixed for sautéed beet and radish tops. And what about those squat peppers just calling out to be stuffed. Thank you Jess and Jakoby for growing deliciously beautiful food. It’s not always about the distance you travel or It’s not always about the distance you travel or how long the trip. We travelled 6km, camped in our friend’s driveway, drank, ate, swam, shared stories around a campfire, walked through the neighbourhood admiring the moon and the night sky, saw a shooting star, went to sleep listening to a symphony of cicadas, awoke to sunshine, ate, swam and left with a loot bag of fresh sweet corn and just-picked-herbs, still laughing as we drove home. Duff said it was the best 24-hour camping party he’s ever been to! Duff was awake the next morning at 6 am. We walked Duff was awake the next morning at 6 am. We walked to a cliff to enjoy the ombre horizon over Lake Huron before returning to our cozy bed in the van for a couple more hours of shut-eye. After breakfast, we walked back to the beach, met a couple on the path from Guelph who happens to be friends with the owners of the ice cream parlour across the street from our apartment in Amherstburg.
