Do you feel like you’ve been waiting for Godot? Do you feel like you’ve been waiting for Godot? Or like a bird awaiting migration, restless in the lead up to a long journey? We felt like we were still for all of 2020. Looking back, we weren’t as stationary as we imagined, though much more so than we have been in a very long time. In 2013, while on a sabbatical, we spent almost a In 2013, while on a sabbatical, we spent almost a month on the island of Corsica which is part of France. We stayed in a house in the hamlet of Suare (Siri insisted on calling it Square), in the village of Misincu. We became friends early on in our residency with a wonderful little family (Aldo, Carole and Renee). When answering questions in English, in the affirmative, we would reply, ‘of Corsica!’ And as the date of our departure loomed nearer and nearer we would let each of our friends know just how much we would be, ‘misincu,’ when we left this enchanting, beautiful island smelling of glorious maquis. We’re not sure if 2021 is the year we return to Corsica but return we will and it will definitely be for longer than a month. We have travelled the length and breadth of Ontario ensuring we see all of our extended family. We have celebrated the holidays in big and small ways, en masse and on our own. Tonight we shucked oysters and opened a bottle of champagne. We couldn’t have been happier. Tonight we reflected on some of our happiest times and they ALL involved eating.
